We believe that research comes alive when it's communicated.

That its value grows when it becomes part of wider conversations between the public, policy makers, and business.

That’s why, when we're creating content, we focus on an approach that not only tells your story but invites a response in return.

And research isn’t just one of the things we communicate, it’s the only thing we communicate.

Having that singular focus gives us a head start over other agencies, as we fully understand the unique communications challenges that you face as researchers, and how to overcome them.

We might do that  visually or with audio, through film, animation, infographics or podcasts. Whatever content you choose, what matters to us is that it resonates with your target audience and drives two-way conversations.

  How we started…

PB portrait round.png

“Before starting Orinoco I’d spent over a decade making factual television shows for broadcasters like the BBC, National Geographic and the Discovery Channel.

Orinoco Communications was born in 2016 out of my realisation that the people whose knowledge, expertise and research we were using to tell our stories - the scientists, historians, economists, theologians and philosophers - had their own need for creative communications beyond those of the TV programs we were making.

Since then we’ve grown into a fully fledged digital communications and content creation agency with a single mission at our core: to combine storytelling and strategy to give research the reach it deserves.”

PETER BARKER

Owner and Creative Director

Peter is a multimedia producer with more than fifteen years experience creating documentaries, animations and other forms of digital content for TV and online. Before starting Orinoco Communications in 2016 Peter worked as a television producer and director, a job that took him all over the world, filming everywhere from NASA bases in the U.S.A. to volcanic islands in the Pacific ocean to ancient Mayan ruins in Central America. Now he has a more sedate life, living with his family by the sea on the east coast of England.

Peter also presents our Research Comms podcast - which you really should subscribe to!

BIANCA WINTER

Client Relations Manager / Project Manager

Before joining Orinoco Communications Bianca spent two decades in charge of operations and project management at various arts, tech and non-profit organizations. Bianca has always chosen to work for mission-driven organizations and her decision to join Orinoco Communications is no different. When she is not helping to produce impactful content for Orinoco’s own mission-driven clients she loves spending time in Spain, practicing her conjugations while enjoying the odd glass of sherry!

JOE STEPTOE

Content Producer

Joe is a creative powerhouse, juggling many hats at Orinoco, including video director, editor, scriptwriter and producer of our very own Research Comms podcast. After getting an MA in Ethographic and Documentary Film Studies at University College London in 2017, Joe worked for the next five years as a producer of television documentaries and short form films, before joining Orinoco Communications in 2023. Outside of work Joe enjoys swimming for unfeasibly long distances, tending to his cabbages, and playing five-a-side football with one of south-east London’s finest outfits, Athletico Pathetico.
