Telling the story of a key innovation from UT Austin that is powering the pandemic-beating COVID-19 vaccines.

Challenge

“We need help telling the most important story in the world right now.” Those were the words of the UT Austin team that contacted us in November 2020, seeking help to tell the story of a team of scientists from the University of Texas’s McLellan Lab, whose innovation played a key role in many of the leading COVID-19 vaccines. To make things more complicated, we also needed to create the video in just over a week, to coincide its launch with news that the team in question had won a prestigious international award for their COVID research.

Solution

Without the luxury of time we had to get going straight away. To get the ball-rolling immediately, we took inspiration from our fast video abstracts, which blend remotely recorded interview with collage-style graphics and customised explainer animations.

These videos have been designed in such a way that they explain research in a clear, attractive and engaging way, whilst also being fast to produce.

The result was a video, produced and delivered in less than seven days, that captured the mind-blowing science and excitement of discovery behind the McLellan Lab’s innovation.
