At Orinoco we believe the best research deserves the highest quality communication.

Founded in 2016 by television documentary director, Peter Barker, the goal for the company has always been to tell research stories in captivating, fresh ways.

We might do it visually or with audio, through film, animation, web design or infographics. Whatever content you choose, what matters to us is that it resonates with your target audience, drives two-way conversations, and generates impact.

Passionate Advocates for Public Engagement with Research

We create communication for a variety of audiences: academics, policymakers, business but we’re particularly driven by public engagement with research, so we’re always looking for new opportunities to help researchers communicate what they do and why to public audiences.

That’s why we produce a podcast all about public engagement, featuring guests who are doing inspiring work in the field. And why we have a research communication blog that’s full of content to help researchers harness the power of digital media to communicate their knowledge to lay audiences.

Working with the Orinoco Communications team has been a real pleasure. Their enthusiasm, rigor, tenacity and artistic ability are exemplary. From the earliest phases of development they have shown great creativity in making challenging scientific concepts accessible to the wider public. Their experience provides unparalleled support throughout the journey of content creation, from conception through to final delivery.

The videos are absolutely brilliant and will be a great addition to the website. I still can’t watch the Patient Story films without a tear in my eye, and everyone I have shown them to is the same. You have caught the emotion, tragedy and optimism brilliantly.
— Professor Sir Doug Turnbull - Wellcome Trust Centre for Mitochondrial Research
It was a pleasure working with Peter Barker and the Orinoco Communications team, who showed attention to both scientific and aesthetic detail. They produced a hand-drawn animation on a tight budget in just 10 weeks. Every member of the team is efficient, responsive, and friendly. The animation has received only positive feedback, and has racked up several thousand views in a short space of time.
— Julia Turan - Communications Manager, The Physiological Society
It was a pleasure working with Orinoco to put together a film celebrating the centenary of the UK’s venereal disease act. The project ran to time and to budget and the final product was of excellent quality. Peter and the team communicated well throughout and responded to feedback and proposed changes quickly and effectively. Thank you!
